Mission & values

What we exist to do.

Every company has a mission statement. Most read like they were written by committee. Ours is one sentence, four commitments, and seven values, all in plain language. If we’re ever doing something that doesn’t fit on this page, point at the page and we’ll either change the work or change the page.

Our mission
To make it possible for any Australian who has learned a craft, to teach it to anyone who wants to learn, and to be fairly paid for doing it.

The mission has three parts and each one is doing work. Any Australian means we start in our own backyard. We have ambitions beyond Australia eventually, but the platform is shaped first for the country we know. Has learned a craft means real expertise from real practice, not certification, not credentials, not “I read three books and made a course”. Fairly paid means a 50/50 revenue split that beats every comparable platform, and a payment system designed around the Host’s time, not ours.

The internet is filling up with content made by nobody, for nobody. Algorithms writing recipes. Synthetic voices teaching pottery. AI-generated ‘courses’ sold by people who’ve never touched the subject. We watched this happen and decided to build the opposite.”

We’re not anti-AI. We use AI tools internally for what they’re good at: drafting, summarising, transcribing, debugging, scheduling. We just think it has no place in the moment a learner is being taught a craft. The teaching is human. The platform is digital. That’s the deal.

The four commitments

Things you can hold us to.

These aren’t aspirations. They’re operational rules. Each one has a public consequence if we break it, and a public way to verify it.

Real humans only. No AI shortcuts in the teaching.
No AI-generated Workshops, no synthetic Hosts, no voice-cloned demos, no avatar of a Host. The teacher is a real person. The teaching is real human craft. Read the full AI policy.
Verifiable: every Host completes a short live verification call before their first Workshop goes live. AI-detection passes on every upload.
$
Hosts keep 50% of every Workshop sale.
No tiers, no premium plan, no "promotional fee", no "boost" feature. The 50/50 split is the same for every Host, and it’s grandfathered for life. Stripe processing comes out of our half, not yours.
Verifiable: every Host’s dashboard shows the gross, the split, the deductions, and the payout. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.
90 days of access. No subscription. No expiry tricks.
Buy once, watch as much as you like for 90 days from your first play. Not from purchase, not from "account creation", not from some hidden timer. Press play when you’re ready. The clock starts then.
Verifiable: Buyer dashboard shows the exact start time and the exact end time. We send a reminder at day 75, not at day 88, so you don’t get caught out.
1% of revenue to R U OK?, every year.
Australia’s mental-health charity. Paid out of our half, not the Host’s. Independently audited annual statement published in November of each year. We started this commitment in our first month and we’re not stopping.
Verifiable: public donation receipt published every November. R U OK? confirms the figure independently.
The values that decide trade-offs

Seven values we actually argue from.

When we have to choose between two things and there’s no obvious right answer, these are the seven we lean on. They’re not posters on the wall. They show up in commit messages, design reviews, and the words we use with you.

01
The maker is the protagonist
When in doubt, the Host’s name comes first, not the platform’s. What this changes: Hosts get top billing on every page. We never use the platform name where the maker’s would do.
02
Specifics over abstractions
We talk in real numbers, real names, real outcomes. What this changes: our pricing page shows dollar figures, not “competitive rates”. Our calculator returns “$580/month”, not “your earnings”.
03
Slow growth, durable trust
We’d rather grow at half the speed and keep our standards than 10x and drift. What this changes: we don’t run referral spam, “growth hacks”, or sneaky pricing. We saw what that did to Etsy.
04
Boring beats clever
In product, in copy, in pricing. Boring scales. Clever burns. What this changes: our pricing is one number. Our terms are 4,000 words. Our refund policy works without you reading it first.
05
Plain language, plural voice
No marketing jargon. No “creators” when “Hosts” is what we mean. What this changes: we say “we”, not “I”. We say “Workshop”, not “drop”. We never say “synergy” or “ecosystem”.
06
Real labour deserves real money
Teaching a craft on camera takes time, vulnerability and skill. What this changes: 50% revenue share. No “exposure” deals. No unpaid trial Workshops. No “complimentary access” we extract value from.
07
Transparency over polish
If we got something wrong, we publish the fix. If a number changed, we say what changed and why. What this changes: public quarterly notes. Audited charity figures. Honest comparison pages.
What this rules out

Things we said no to (and why).

A mission is only real if it stops you doing things. Below: real product trade-offs we made because of the values above. The “no” column is what saying yes would have looked like.

YES. A 50/50 revenue split for every Host, including the first 10 hand-picked Hosts.
NO. Tiered “Premium” Host plans paying 70% but locked behind a $99/month subscription, like Skillshare and Patreon.
YES. 90 days from first play. No subscription. No auto-renew.
NO. A monthly “MingleIn Pro” subscription that auto-renews and that we know 30% of users would forget to cancel.
YES. A strict no-AI-content policy on every Workshop and every Boast.
NO. “AI-assisted” Workshops with synthetic narration that would let us 10x catalogue size in three months at 1/10th the production cost.
YES. Search results ranked by relevance and Buyer signal.
NO. “Promoted listings” or pay-to-rank visibility, like Etsy Ads and Udemy Ads. Money buying placement always punishes the smaller maker.
YES. 14-day refunds, auto-approved if under 25% watched.
NO. A “no refunds, all sales final” policy that maximises revenue but turns every disappointed Buyer into a chargeback.
Real humans only
Strict no-AI-content policy on every Workshop and Boast.
$
50% to every Host
Twice what most platforms pay creators.
90 days of access
Watch as much as you like for 90 days from purchase.
1% to R U OK?
Australia's mental-health charity, on every sale.

If we ever drift, tell us.

The values on this page only matter if you can hold us to them. Email hello@minglein.com.au if you spot a gap between the words and the work.
