By the end of this Workshop
- Two finished botanical watercolour pieces, A4 size
- A reference sheet of wash techniques you'll keep coming back to
- Confidence to paint from a garden you actually have, not someone else's
Before you start
- A small watercolour paint set (any brand — 12 colours is plenty)
- Cold-press watercolour paper, 300gsm, A4 or larger
- A round watercolour brush, size 8 or 10
- Two jars of water and a paper towel
What’s in the Workshop
Why watercolour is hard, and why that's fine
11mFree previewThe honest pep talk. Why your first attempts will look nothing like the demos. What to look for instead.
Paper, paint, and a brush worth keeping
14mCold-press vs hot-press. Tube vs pan paint. The one brush you actually need.
Wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry
22mThe two techniques every watercolour painting alternates between. Hands-on exercises.
Painting a single leaf
24mFull painting walk-through. Composition, light, three colour washes, finishing detail.
Painting a garden corner
28mA small composition with three subjects. Managing wet edges. Letting white paper do the work.
What to do when it goes wrong
11mRecovery techniques. When to lift, when to stop, when to start again.
Who’s teaching this
Alice @alice
Arty Alice taught painting through YouTube for six years before joining MingleIn as a founding Host. She paints from her garden in the Adelaide Hills. Her teaching is slow, kind, and honest about how long it takes to get good.
Paint with a friend
Schedule a Watch Party for Module 5 (the garden composition) and paint together. Two hours, two paintings, one shared cup of tea.
You’re not just buying a video. You’re joining @alice’s Community.
Alice's Community is the largest on the platform — about 480 members, mostly former YouTube subscribers who wanted somewhere quieter to make and share.
- Monthly painting prompt — whole Community paints the same subject
- Live Q&A on the first Sunday of every month
- Early access to Alice's seasonal Workshops
